The Costa Brava is stupendously beautiful, as the foothills of the Pyrenees arrive at the Mediterranean in a series of sweeping pine-covered headlands between which are sandy bays.
With its mountainous backdrops and staggering hidden coves, the Costa Brava is perfect if you’re soft on nature and eager to hit the beach. Tossa de Mar offers a slice of Catalan culture, while Lloret de Mar is about maximising fun in the sun.
The countryside sitting behind the Costa Brava is rugged, with deep ravines, rushing rivers and remote villages – a real ‘getting away from it all’ option. Things to see include Game of Thrones filming locations in Girona, medieval villages, Salvador Dali’s home, and much more. Visit the lovely medieval towns called Pals and Peratallada and walk around the villages for hours. Llafranc is one of the most gorgeous beaches you will find in Europe and is best approached by trekking. The Costa Brava restaurant scene is astounding, fresh seafood from the Mediterranean Sea, local organic produce often from feet away, and small batch wines are typical features everywhere! A fantastically intact 14th century medieval castle (former convent) and perhaps the only castle casino in the world, Castel Peralada is actually much more than it appears. If you’re feeling adventurous, head for Parc Aventura, just along the coast from Sant Feliu de Guixols. Brave the high ropes and zip wires, The park also offers paintballing, canyoning, caving, climbing and archery. And dont forget taking a boat trip to enjoy the rugged coastline.
